DutiesDuring the course of their careers, UniformedDivision Officers carry out assignments in protection.
Dutiesinclude:
Providing protection for The White House Complex, The VicePresident's Residence, The Main Treasury Building and Annex, andforeign diplomatic missions and embassies in the Washington, D.C.area. Traveling in support of the Presidential, Vice Presidential,and foreign heads of state/government missions. Enforcing mandated protective responsibilities as describedunder Title 18, United States Code, Section3056A.RequirementsConditions of Employment U.S. citizenship is required. Possess a current valid U.S. driver's license.

Conditions ofEmployment you will be required to: Be at least age 20 and less than age 37 at the time you receivea conditional offer of employment, unless you have previous servicein a Federal Civilian Law Enforcement position covered by speciallaw enforcement or firefighter retirement provisions, includingearly or mandatory retirement. Applicants with veteran's preferencemust receive a conditional offer of employment prior to reachingage 40 to continue in the application process. Possess uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100binocular. Possess corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better ineach eye. (
Note:
Lasik, ALK, RK, and PRK corrective eye surgeriesare acceptable eye surgeries for Uniformed Division Officerapplicants. Applicants will be considered eligible for theUniformed Division Officer position provided specific visual testsare passed. The following are waiting periods for visual tests:

Lasik-2 months after surgery, PRK-6 months after surgery, and ALKand RK-one year after surgery). Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 25decibels (A.S.A. or equivalent I.S.O.) in either ear in the 500,1000, and 2000 Hz ranges. Applicants must be able to hear thewhispered voice at 15 feet with each ear without the use of ahearing aid. Submit to a drug test prior to your appointment and random drugtesting while you occupy the position. Disclose any prior drug use, attempted use, and/orexperimentation. Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency isalso mandatory. You will be ineligible to occupy this position ifat any time you have been convicted of a misdemeanor crime ofdomestic violence, unless you received a pardon or your convictionwas expunged or set aside. Complete 12 weeks of intensive training at the Federal LawEnforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA or Artesia, NMand 17 weeks of specialized training at the James J. RowleyTraining Center in Laurel, MD. Failure to pass the standards on thefirst attempt may result in separation from the Secret Service.

Be appointed to this position under a limited-term Schedule Bexcepted appointment which is 3 years and 120 days. QualificationsYou qualify for the LE-01 grade level(starting salary $66,562) if you meet the following requirements: Possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or certificate ofequivalency. Be the age of 20 at the time of application. Must be 21 at thetime of appointment.

All qualification requirements listed abovemust be met by the cut-off date of the month in which youapplied.

The standards are anticipated to be the same regardless of age,gender or position. Prior to testing, applicants must obtain atCertificate of Wellness from a certified physician to be eligibleto test. It is recommended that this certificate is completed assoon as possible.

EducationGeneralMedical Requirements:
As determined by the Office of PersonnelManagement, the duties of this position require moderate to arduousphysical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms,and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity withcomparatively free motion of fingers, wrist, elbows, shoulders,hips and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs and feet mustfunction sufficiently in order for applicants to perform the dutiessatisfactorily.
