Although many companies use in-house information technology (IT) specialists, some hire IT contractors to administer their networks.   Upon completing their basic training, students may go on to study in the many Advanced Training paths for Information Technology, including Advanced Cisco-Certified Network Associate Cyber Security Ops, Advanced A+ Administrator, Advanced Computer Systems Administration and Advanced A+ Microsoft MCSE.

Install, configure, and maintain an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network, operating systems, and physical and virtual servers. Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems. Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups. Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access. Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses. May assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.

What skills and credentials will I gain?

This is the first level of basic training offered in the Cisco series. Students who complete the Computer Networking/Cisco – IT Essentials training program can earn industry-recognized credentials from organizations such as the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) and Cisco. Credentials such as these show that students are ready for positions in computer programming and repair.  Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program.
