The curriculum is aligned with national competency standards and trade-specific skills as designated by the Michigan Residential Builder, Maintenance and Alteration Contractor license, and local apprenticeship training programs. Students will develop the understanding and skills to build, inspect, and repair structures. Students will learn to effectively utilize trade-specific tools and equipment, learn how to read blueprints and plans and develop the ability to manage projects while controlling costs.

Carpenters
Construct, erect, install, or repair structures and fixtures made of wood and comparable materials, such as concrete forms; building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters; and wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors. May also install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation. Includes brattice builders who build doors or brattices (ventilation walls or partitions) in underground passageways.

To earn this certificate, students must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher, fulfill the course requirements of the program listed below, and complete a minimum of 21 credit hours. Each prerequisite course must be completed with a minimum grade of C.
