This online class meets one evening a week in person. The Medical Coder/Biller program is designed to prepare students for employment in a variety of healthcare settings as an entry-level medical coder, coding technician, coding clerk, or medical insurance biller. Coding is the process of taking a written diagnosis or operative procedure and assigning numbers used for billing and statistics. The program covers ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. Students are taught manual and automated procedures. The student will also be trained to prepare and file medical insurance claim forms for reimbursement. The curriculum includes all levels of coding systems; computer adapted coding, legal and ethical responsibilities, safety/security problems, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, disease processes, computer literacy, and employment skills.
