Medical assisting is one of the nation’s fastest-growing careers, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The program is designed to teach students the basic principles and entry-level competencies needed to become a medical assistant. Focus is placed on all aspects of the medical office and role of the medical assistant within the office. Medical assistants can perform both administrative and clinical duties. The externship will reinforce the classroom and lab experiences to provide each student with a comprehensive understanding of the role of the medical assistant.

Medical Assistants
Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.
