The San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute (SDRPSTI) is part of the Public Safety program at Miramar College. This program presents the guidelines of the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and serves law enforcement agencies throughout San Diego County and beyond. The POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement training provides recruits with the skills, practical training, and discipline to prepare them for a long and rewarding career in law enforcement. Recruits/students participate in the intensive regional academy Monday through Friday, eight hours a day, for 24 weeks. Students attend classroom lectures and participate in technical skills training throughout this period. The recruits/students must also participate in concentrated and intense physical conditioning classes. Students must successfully pass POST examinations during the training to continue and successfully complete the academy program. Upon graduation, recruits receive a completion certificate from the San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute at Miramar College.

How do I apply for the academy? The POST Academy application is a multiple-step process that unsponsored candidates are required to complete before the posted deadline of the application acceptance period. Please check the academy dates. Applications will only be accepted during the dates listed - no exceptions. There are two applications that are required. The first application can be submitted on the statewide CCCApply website. The second application required is the San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute (SDRPSTI) application that will only be available during the posted dates of acceptance. The following materials must be submitted as a single PDF (not to exceed 15 MB):
- Completed SDRPSTI application with wet signatures in designated areas, and
- Copy of valid California Class C driver’s license or current military ID and out-of-state valid driver’s license
- Temporary/paper driver’s license or out-of-state driver’s license are not accepted Email single PDF and SDCCD Student/User ID# (within the body of email) to [email protected].
