The goal of the Medical Assisting Program is To prepare medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession ● With the exception of MDCA 1313 Medical Terminology, MDCA 1302 Human Disease/Pathophysiology, and MDCA 1254 Medical Assistant Credentialing Exam Review, enrollment in the Medical Assisting Program (MDCA, PHRA) courses is restricted to medical assisting majors and those students whose program major lists a medical assisting course as either a requirement or an elective, unless approved by the Program Coordinator. ● Acceptance to the Medical Assisting Program is considered with the completion of Phases 1 - 3 below and with a competitive ranking process with particular attention given to timely submission of required paperwork and grade point average (GPA).
THE MEDICAL ASSISTING CERTIFICATE LEVEL II PROGRAM IS A FALL-ENTRY-ONLY PROGRAM WITH LIMITED ENROLLMENT (24).

Medical Assistants
Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.

Admissions
In addition to meeting the general admission requirements of San Antonio College, all students desiring admission to the Medical Assisting Program in the Fall semester must have met the following requirements: Phase 1 ● Submit a transcript of all previous college work and ACT/SAT scores, if applicable, to San Antonio College Admissions and Records. ● Apply for formal admission to San Antonio College. ● Report to the Department of Counseling and Student Development for academic placement assessment. ● Complete the following entry-level skills courses: MATH 0410+0105 - Pre-Algebra or higher or TSIA2 940-949 EDUC 1300 ● GPA of 2.0 or better ● Complete the online application for the Medical Assisting CLII Program Recommendation *MDCA 1313 Medical Terminology, taken prior to semester I
