This competency-based course is the first in a two-part sequence designed for electrical technicians and electrical trainees. The focus of the first part includes the field of residential electrical work. This course includes technical instruction and practical hands-on experience in workplace safety, trade mathematics, tool use, resource management, and fundamental electrical concepts including Alternating Current (AC) and Direct Current (DC) circuits. Students will understand and evaluate the electrical wiring codes and the need for permits while applying these codes to the installation of electrical devices typically found in residential Electrical work. Responsibilities and characteristics a successful worker should possess are also included.
