This curriculum is designed to prepare students for employment as entry-level network technicians. Students that successfully complete the Entry Network Technician certificate will be able to install, operate and troubleshoot small enterprise networks and perform basic network security. This certificate also prepares students to pass the CISCO ICND-1 examination and the CompTIA Security+ examination.

Install, configure, and maintain an organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), data communications network, operating systems, and physical and virtual servers. Perform system monitoring and verify the integrity and availability of hardware, network, and server resources and systems. Review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs, including system backups. Analyze network and server resource consumption and control user access. Install and upgrade software and maintain software licenses. May assist in network modeling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software.

Admissions Eligibility:

  • High school graduates
  • Individuals in possession of a California high school proficiency certificate, GED or certificate of completion
  • Individuals at least 18 years of age and no longer attending high school
  • International/foreign students who are eligible for admission under the USCIS guidelines
  • High school student* – must complete and submit Concurrent Enrollment Form
  • * IF you are a graduating high school senior concurrently enrolled at Rio Hondo College AND plan to attend the subsequent term, you will need to reapply as a first time college student.
