This program prepares medical assistants who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession. The practitioner performs administrative and clinical duties and may manage emergency situations, facilities, and/or personnel. Medical Assistants are allied health practitioners and work in doctor offices, outpatient clinics, ambulatory facilities, and other healthcare-related businesses. The Medical Assistant program progresses from lecture to hands-on lab skills to practice in the clinical setting. Students will take the national test for certification to become a Certified Medical Assistant.

Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.
