Plumbing Apprenticeship Program

at Plumber & Pipefitters Local 562

St. Louis Catalog

The U.A. apprenticeship training program stands “head-and-shoulders” above the rest. For over 100 years, the U.A. has made it their priority to train the most highly qualified workers in the United States. Each year, they spend over $100 million on training programs. They work continually to improve and expand their educational opportunities. Individuals who wish to become a U.A. apprentice must submit an application to their U.A. Local. Each applicant must have a high school diploma or the equivalent. In addition, you must pass a math exam, a drug test, a physical, and have a valid driver’s license. The application must be fully completed to be eligible for acceptance into the program. Upon acceptance into the apprenticeship program, you will be required to complete five years of training, with each year consisting of up to 2,000 hours of on–the–job training and a minimum of 216 hours of classroom instruction: “proof” that you’re the best-trained worker for the job. After successfully completing the five-year program, you become a full-fledged journeyperson. Once reaching journeyperson status, union workers are evaluated for individual skill level and have the opportunity to advance their careers through U.A. continuing education programs.
