Start your rewarding career in an apprenticeship trade. Apprenticeship programs offer a direct path into high-paying careers like construction, building, and mechanical trades. Carpenters measure, saw, level, and nail wood and other building materials. They install tile and insulation, acoustical ceilings, cabinets, siding, and much more. They work with many tools to build houses, schools, churches, and hotels. They build skyscrapers, hospitals, office buildings, prisons, bridges, tunnels, and highways. Carpenters make up the largest single group of skilled workers in the country.

Carpenters
Construct, erect, install, or repair structures and fixtures made of wood and comparable materials, such as concrete forms; building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters; and wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors. May also install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation. Includes brattice builders who build doors or brattices (ventilation walls or partitions) in underground passageways.

Admissions
To become an apprentice, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years old (or 17 with parent/guardian approval),
- For certain trades and in certain states, have a high school diploma or GED,
- Be able to perform the work of the trade,
- Have your own transportation or a reliable way to get to job sites and apprenticeship classes. You do not need prior experience working on a job site or with hand tools or machinery.
