Phlebotomy Short-Term Certificate
Phlebotomy Short-Term Certificate
at Lorain County Community College
Cleveland Catalog
Proper treatment of healthcare patients always depends on an accurate diagnosis, and blood tests are often an important factor in that process. A phlebotomist is the highly-trained professional who collects blood specimens as well as other body fluids for laboratory testing. In many environments, the role of phlebotomist has evolved to include many other responsibilities besides specimen collection, so education in basic laboratory testing procedures is essential. As a phlebotomist, you must be educated and trained in the collection and handling of fluids to ensure a high-quality specimen. You must have a focused attention to details, compassionate interpersonal skills to interact with patients, and knowledge of correct safety procedures to protect patients and yourself. Graduates of LCCC’s Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) or Medical Assisting One-Year Certificate need only to complete two core courses from the phlebotomy program (PHBT 112 and PHBT 121) to receive an additional short-term technical certificate in phlebotomy. Students enrolled in the Medical Assisting program may earn an Associate of Applied Science by completing courses in the phlebotomy program, along with other requirements.
