The course of instruction offered at the Lorain County Community College (LCCC) Police Academy will qualify the student to take the required Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC) certification test for the position of Police Officer. The Police Academy does not follow the traditional academic calendar. The LCCC Police Academy training consists of approximately 912 hours of instruction, which exceeds the minimum OPOTC requirement of 740 curriculum hours. Classes will generally be scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, the Police Academy reserves the right to schedule limited evening and Saturday sessions based on needs.

Police and Sheriff's Patrol Officers
Maintain order and protect life and property by enforcing local, tribal, state, or federal laws and ordinances. Perform a combination of the following duties: patrol a specific area; direct traffic; issue traffic summonses; investigate accidents; apprehend and arrest suspects, or serve legal processes of courts. Includes police officers working at educational institutions.

Admissions
- Citizen of the United States.
- Age: 21 years of age or reach that age by the completion of the academy.
- High School graduate or equivalent (GED)
- Be enrolled as a student at LCCC and be in good financial and academic standing.
- Possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License and currently have full driving privileges in the State of Ohio.
- Pass a drug screening test within 90 days of the start of the Academy.
- Meet physical fitness standards established by the OPOTC.
- Meet additional requirements listed in the appendix of OPOTC restrictions.
