This 200-hour course is approved by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) as a requirement for licensing for refrigeration machine operators, meeting the requirements of both class training and shop work. It also allows you to sit for the FDNY's Examination for a Certificate of Qualification for Refrigeration Operating Engineer. Topics include the maintenance and repair of compression and absorption refrigeration systems, and the safety precautions that should be observed in operating, maintaining, and repairing refrigeration machinery. You will visit modern refrigeration facilities that manufacture and maintain equipment. You'll also prepare for and take the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification exam for "Universal Technician," which is also required to sit for the FDNY's Examination for Certificate of Qualification for Refrigeration Operating Engineer.
