The Basic Certificate in Construction Carpentry prepares students for an entry-level apprentice position with a construction contractor. The program provides instruction in tool safety and usage, construction materials, work site safety, blueprint reading, and mathematical concepts. Course content also includes an introduction to the trades and basic ARC welding. Theory and practical “hands-on” application are emphasized throughout the program.

Carpenters
Construct, erect, install, or repair structures and fixtures made of wood and comparable materials, such as concrete forms; building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters; and wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors. May also install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation. Includes brattice builders who build doors or brattices (ventilation walls or partitions) in underground passageways.
