General Automotive Service Certification
at Kalamazoo Valley Community College
West Michigan Catalog
The one-year certificate in general automotive service is designed to serve as a fast-track option for entering the automotive workforce by obtaining entry-level employability skills. It is designed to provide the starting technician with the knowledge required to safely and ethically work in the automotive field as defined by local employers. It will prepare the student to pass Michigan State Certification exams in Engines, Brakes, Steering and Suspension, and Air Conditioning as well as MACS (Mobile Air Conditioning Society) certification for refrigerant handling. It also provides the option of becoming ASE General Service Technician certified upon program completion. For students wishing to continue their education, requirements for this certificate also fulfill the first two semesters of both the automotive drivability systems AAS and automotive undercar systems AAS programs.
