The Applied Technology Diploma (ATD) in dental assisting prepares students for a rewarding career that requires both interpersonal and technical skills. The duties of a dental assistant are among the most comprehensive and varied in the dental office, including working with dentists during a variety of procedures. During this one-year program, students will learn to expose radiographs, fabricate temporary crowns, take impressions for models, place sealants, polish teeth, and instruct patients on oral home care.

Perform limited clinical duties under the direction of a dentist. Clinical duties may include equipment preparation and sterilization, preparing patients for treatment, assisting the dentist during treatment, and providing patients with instructions for oral healthcare procedures. May perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes.

  • Fall application deadline June 15
  • Official High School or GED and ALL post-secondary transcripts are required. HCC transcript is not required. If you did not submit these along with your general HCC application, see our Transcripts webpage for details on how to submit. The My Documents section of MyHCC Self-Service will be updated to confirm that we have received your transcripts.
  • $53 application fee payment. Fee is non-refundable.
  • College-level English and Math required. Students must achieve a minimum score on a placement test (SAT, ACT, or PERT) or have completed previous college-level coursework. Placement tests must have been taken with in the last two years. For coursework equivalency, a referral to take a placement test, or to determine score cut-offs, contact an HCC Academic Advisor at any campus. Please note:
    • Math and Science prerequisites must be retaken if older than 7 years before the deadline. Students who prefer not to retake older math classes can meet the math requirement by taking a college placement test before the deadline.
    • Meeting the Senate Bill 1720 placement test exemption does not satisfy the minimum test score or college-level English and Math requirement.
  • Must be a high school graduate and 18 years old before the first day of classes.
