Construction Basics Training

Goodwill’s free Construction Basics training course helps participants quickly develop the knowledge and skills they need to gain employment in the construction industry. In this nine-week introductory class, you will learn safety precautions and awareness and will receive an introduction to construction drawings, basic rigging, material handling, and basic (construction) math used on a job site. Graduates will also be able to identify power and hand tools and describe their uses.

Carpenters
Construct, erect, install, or repair structures and fixtures made of wood and comparable materials, such as concrete forms; building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters; and wood stairways, window and door frames, and hardwood floors. May also install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation. Includes brattice builders who build doors or brattices (ventilation walls or partitions) in underground passageways.

- Have at least an 85% attendance rate
- Achieve a passing score (70%) on all module tests
- Pass the Performance Profile tests for each module
