With a median-average-hourly wage of $22.66 and even higher-average-hourly wages of $33.41, now is the time to start a lucrative and exciting career in transportation. In California, you may be hired to drive a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) carrying cargo that originates and terminates within state lines if you are at least 18 years old, and to drive for interstate commerce or transport hazardous materials/waste if you’re 21 or older. In either scenario, you need to hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) in order to drive a CMV.
