Students are instructed in the areas of patrol, field enforcement procedures and 9-1-1, criminal courts and jail procedures, felony warrant service, and criminal investigations among the many classes taught. Instructors include deputies as well as civilian law enforcement personnel. The academy exists to provide the highest quality training possible for the law enforcement/detention community and for other employees of Dallas County. This training is in the areas of knowledge, skills, and attitude; and will be conducted in the basic training and in-service training modes. Our goal is to provide the citizens we serve with the best trained, most highly skilled, and ethical public servants possible.

Police and Sheriff's Patrol Officers
Maintain order and protect life and property by enforcing local, tribal, state, or federal laws and ordinances. Perform a combination of the following duties: patrol a specific area; direct traffic; issue traffic summonses; investigate accidents; apprehend and arrest suspects, or serve legal processes of courts. Includes police officers working at educational institutions.
