Utility Technician
at Cuyahoga Community College
Cleveland Catalog
The Utility Technician program meets the rising demand for skilled workers looking to enter or advance in Northeast Ohio’s utility contracting and public utilities industry. Tri-C is the designated training location for the 16-county region in Northeast Ohio. The program offers hands-on learning in essential areas such as overhead and underground electrical communication, natural gas distribution, wastewater management and water systems. Participants will learn to operate specialized equipment like bucket trucks and directional boring machines, as well as master critical skills in underground utility location and fiber optic technology — all while honing communication, computational and troubleshooting skills. Additionally, students pursuing the associate degree, which is currently under development, will have the option to add truck driving instruction to their coursework, preparing them for the Commercial Driver’s License Class A (CDL A) state test.
