By instructing in a hands-on and career-focused way, Contra Costa Medical Career College helps to prepare students for the workplace. Not only do students learn in the classroom, but they also have a 160-hour externship, where they work and train as medical assistants in an actual office. This job experience and training are valuable for students, as they embark on their own careers.
CCMCC’s Medical Assistants are trained to collect and prepare laboratory specimens or perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, dispose of contaminated supplies and sterilize medical instruments. Medical Assisting training also includes how to instruct patients about medications and special diets, prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, authorize drug refills as directed, telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy, draw blood and give injections, prepare patients for X-rays, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures and change dressings.

Medical Assistants
Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician.

Admissions
- Applicants must be 18 years or older. All applicants must present either a State issued Identification card /driver’s license or passport. You must have a social security number, therefore; you must be a US Citizen or eligible to work in the United States.
- Proof of High School Graduate/GED or achieved a degree higher than High School Diploma. (Foreign transcripts for diplomas earned outside of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency.)
- No felony, and certain misdemeanor (drug, violence, and theft), convictions are not allowed. A pre-employment background check and drug screening(serum)will be required.
