This 160-hour basic training course will prepare students for a career as a commercial truck driver. Course includes 40 hours of classroom instruction that includes, but is not limited to, preparation for Secretary of State written examinations. The 120 hours yard and road skills consists of 20 hours of behind-the-wheel yard skills, 20 hours minimum of behind-the-wheel road skills and 80 hours of remedial training, which consists of 20 hours of observation and additional classroom, yard and road skills training based on each CDL student’s specific needs.

Drive a tractor-trailer combination or a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). May be required to unload truck. Requires commercial drivers' license. Includes tow truck drivers.

Admissions
Prerequisites: Students must have a valid Illinois Driver's License, Class “D” or above. They may not have committed a serious traffic violation in a commercial motor vehicle within the past 12 months. Students must provide a copy of their Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the Secretary of State’s Office prior to enrollment. Students must not have any physical limitation which affects their driving ability. Students currently on bond or parole are not eligible for the program. Because all CDL testing is conducted in English, students must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
