This certificate prepares students for entry level competencies as phlebotomists in hospitals, intermediate care facilities, blood banks, and other clinical settings. On campus, students will learn theory and develop skills as a phlebotomist. Upon successful completion of the didactic courses, students may enroll in the final course, which requires a three week externship.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
- Be at least 18 years old or higher
- High school graduate; GED or equivalent; or associate degree or higher
- Attend an information session (within 2 years)
- Demonstrate College Reading and Writing Readiness and Basic Algebra Readiness prior to enrolling in PBT 110
- If a student has a CLC GPA, it must be 2.0 or higher

- Note: This program is based at the Lakeshore (Waukegan) Campus. NON-ACADEMIC PROGRAM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS Because of inherent requirements of the profession, the following minimum abilities, i.e. essential functions, are expected of the student:
- Psychomotor skills (eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity) sufficient for safe and successful practice of phlebotomy
- Visual acuity (normal or corrected vision) sufficient for safe and successful practice of phlebotomy
- Adequate English verbal and written communication skills to safely and successfully interact with peers, supervisors and other members of the health care team
- Proof of influenza immunization within 12 months of registering. Immunizations are not given from March through August. Students must earn a minimum grade of “C” in each Phlebotomy course to be able to continue in and graduate from the program.
