This certificate program will prepare the student for an entry-level position as a medical coder and other medical billing positions. This program focuses on medical coding and billing for outpatient facilities, medical clinics, and physician offices. Students will learn medical terminology, pathophysiology, medical legal and ethical aspects, electronic health records (EHR), medical insurance,e and reimbursement requirements. Students will learn how to accurately assign codes using the International Classifications of Diseases (ICD-10-CM), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) manuals. This program begins every spring and courses are taken in progression-spring, then summer, and then fall.
