This program is designed to train students as a multi-skilled person who will assist the physician in patient-care management and education. Students will learn to perform a variety of administrative and clinical duties. Venipuncture, vital signs, urinalysis procedures, sterilization techniques and hematology are examples of the clinical duties expected of a Medical Assistant. Administrative competencies such as, medical insurance management, and billing procedures are also a requirement of this occupation. Externship is an integral part of the program. Students are assigned to a clinical externship for five weeks. During this rotation, the student will use the skills and information learned in the classroom to work in actual clinical settings with real patients.

Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes.   • Students must come into Career & Technical Institute’s Office to pick up a
    registration packet. Online registration will not be accepted for this program.
  • Students must be high school graduates or possess a GED to enroll in the
    program.
  • Students must be proficient in Word Processing.
  • Students must obtain a flu shot and show proof of the date the shot was
    administered.
  • Students must have a 2-step PPD and a note from their doctor indicating they
    are in good health. The College cannot accept testing that was completed over
    six months ago.
  • CPR Certification is mandatory and is included as part of the program.
  • Students must be able to pass a criminal background check prior to externship.
  • No information session required for admission
