Perform limited clinical duties under the direction of a dentist. Clinical duties may include equipment preparation and sterilization, preparing patients for treatment, assisting the dentist during treatment, and providing patients with instructions for oral healthcare procedures. May perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes.

Admissions Requirements and Key Information

  • High school Diploma or its equivalence. Proof of graduation will be requested
  • The program is catered to individuals changing careers to dental assisting or individuals directly out of high school looking to start their career
  • This program is not recommended for past dental assistants or internationally trained Dentists
  • The Dental Assisting Training Program (DATP) is available to individuals located, or those who intend to work as Dental Assistants, in Massachusetts. The clinical experience provided by the DATP meets the requirements necessary for initial licensure as a dental assistant trained on the job (OJT) in Massachusetts. Additional requirements for on-the-job training licensure include but are not limited to, examinations, additional certifications, background checks, etc. This program does not meet the Massachusetts licensure requirements for the EDFA or CDA and is not CODA accredited.
