The ACC Dental Assistant Program can be completed in about 3 months and consists of five progression courses, including classroom and lab hours. In this program, students will gain the skills needed to take the State of Texas Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) exam and enter into an entry-level position in the dental industry.

Dental Assistants
Perform limited clinical duties under the direction of a dentist. Clinical duties may include equipment preparation and sterilization, preparing patients for treatment, assisting the dentist during treatment, and providing patients with instructions for oral healthcare procedures. May perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes.

Admissions
The ACC Dental Assistant program is open to any person at least 18 years old at the start of the course, along with the following requirements:
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Be able to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English
- Have a basic understanding of computers and access to email
- Have manual dexterity to use dental instruments effectively
- Attend the mandatory orientation meeting
- Be physically able to stand for prolonged periods and maneuver in limited spaces
- Be able to push/pull/lift 50+ pounds
- Visit the CEWD Healthcare page for the Viewpoint Screening and the application process and needs:
- Pass a criminal background check
- Be current in health care vaccinations
- CEWD Physical form completed
- Have a current CPR certification
- Read and understand HB1508 requirements for the licensing path
