Improve Your Chances of Getting Hired

We see the job hunt as a continuous cycle:

PART 1: Build Your Network

8 out of 10 jobs hire someone through word of mouth. Connecting with people who work in the industry will increase your chances of learning about, and landing, opportunities.

But how?

Here are some ideas:

  1. Spread the word with family, friends, coworkers, mentors, coaches, and teachers about what types of opportunities you're looking for.
  2. Create a LinkedIn profile to make it easier to connect professionally.

PART 2: Strengthen your pitch

Clearly communicate why you for each position you apply to.

But how? Here are some ideas:

  1. Use a resume builder.
  2. Watch interview skills videos.
  3. Attend career coaching.

All of these tools are available on our Resources catalog

PART 3: Apply, apply, apply

We recommend applying to jobs every week.

But how?

Unfortunately, it's rare to hear back from a job.

In fact, hearing back from 1 in 16 is considered "pretty good."

That's why it's important to work in chunks. So, apply to 3-5 jobs at a time, then repeat the cycle next week.
