EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I
  • STREETS AND TRAFFICs role within the big picture of the Citys overall success.
Operates heavy equipment, maintaining streets, collecting debris, providing leadership, and executing preventative maintenance.
EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I
  • STREETS
AND TRAFFIC
functions include but are not limited to the following:
Equipment Operation:
Operate various heavy machinery (backhoes, dump trucks, jetter, sweepers) for street repairs, debris collection, concrete, and asphalt work. Drive and operate specialized equipment, including but not limited to backhoes, dump trucks, and front-end loaders.
Street Maintenance and Repair:
Perform street repairs by operating heavy equipment such as backhoes, tree trimmers, and rollers. Patch potholes, repair driveways, and maintain street signs.
Debris Collection:
Collect and transport refuse, recyclables, and tree limbs using collection trucks and heavy equipment. Operate a collection truck, pick up refuse, recyclables, and limbs from residential curbs.
Leadership and Training:
Serve as a crew leader when required, providing on-the-job training to lower-level personnel. Provide guidance to employees, assist field crews, and direct the work of other crew members.
Preventative Maintenance:
Change oil and filters on department vehicles and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions. Ensure proper and safe operation of specialized equipment and perform safety checks daily. Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

  • Education and Experience An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED Experience:
1 year of previous relevant work experience is required.
Supervisory:
No previous supervisory experience is required.
Certifications/Licenses:
Valid Texas Commercial Drivers License required. Additional preferred certifications include
  • Water Utilities Safety certification; flagging certification; traffic control certification; FEMA Emergency Management
