4-day work week Medical, dental and vision insurance Life insurance (2x salary up to $150,000) Long-term and short-term disability Flexible spending account 20-year retirement plan with the Texas Municipal Retirement System 5-year vesting and a 2:1 City match Vacation•2 weeks during the first year, 3 weeks after the first year Sick leave•2 weeks per year Employee Assistance Program Longevity pay Position Overview Under the direction of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanic is responsible for the diagnosis and repair, servicing, preventive maintenance, and inspection of a wide variety of gasoline, alternative fuel, and diesel-powered equipment, automobiles; light, medium and heavy-duty trucks; and construction equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Essential Job Functions Services, diagnoses, and performs complex automotive, truck, and equipment repairs on gas and diesel engines, hydraulic repairs, brakes and related components of electrical, mechanical, and computerized vehicle systems. Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions on vehicle computer components. Performs preventive maintenance inspections and State vehicle inspections. Road test vehicles and equipment for proper operation before returning to the user department. May modify, fabricate, and install special equipment. Assists and works with other technicians in performing complex repair problems. May respond to road calls and make on-site repairs. In the absence of the supervisor, may assist with leading the work activities of others. May weld metal components to repair parts for equipment and vehicles. Diagnoses and repairs malfunctioning hydraulic systems. Responsible for diagnoses of malfunctioning light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, and for determining the actions to be taken for repair; cleaning bay areas, return tools and equipment to prior location; pick up parts and supplies as needed; generate repair orders and obtain purchase orders for work performed and parts purchased. Responsible for regular, on-time attendance. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of a technical or trade school program in automotive and heavy truck technology. Four (4) years of experience in the repair and service of gasoline and diesel engines, automobiles; light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks; and construction equipment with on-board components. Other Requirements Must obtain a "Class A" commercial driver's license within 90 days of employment as a condition of continued employment and ability to maintain city driving standards in accordance with the driver standards as established by the City of Rowlett. Must be able to obtain a Texas Department of Public Safety Inspection Certification and a Freon Recovery Certification within six months of assignment to position. Must obtain within one year of assignment to position, and maintain an active status, a minimum of two (2) ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certifications unless you have a degree or certification from an automotive or truck manufacturer-certified training program, technical or trade school program in automotive and heavy truck technology. Must reside within a 1-hour response time from the Public Works Building, employee will have six (6) months from employment date in which to relocate. Will be subject to covering/handling first-call or back-up call when assigned.
