Microcomputer System Specialist Poughkeepsie Public Library District 93 Market Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 Microcomputer System Specialist - Poughkeepsie Public Library District (Full-Time): The Library District seeks qualified individuals for the position of Microcomputer System Specialist (Full-Time).
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet these minimum qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited post-secondary school with an Associate's degree in data processing or a closely related field and one (1) year of full-time paid work experience in data processing which primarily involved the installation and full support of microcomputer and LAN systems; or
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of full-time paid work experience as described above;
  • Possession of a New York State Motor Vehicle Operator's license at time of appointment and to maintain position. This is a Provisional Appointment. The selected candidate will need to take the Microcomputer System Specialist civil service test with Dutchess County, when available, and be reachable for permanent appointment. Typical Work Activities
  • Receives, inventories, and performs initial configuration and installation of hardware and operating software;
  • Installs and supports local area network operating system hardware and software;
  • Relocates hardware and upgrades software on existing systems;
  • Provides telephone and field support to users on hardware, software, and network system problems;
  • Provides training to users on hardware, software, and network systems;
  • Performs routine maintenance and repairs on systems, and contacts vendors for service as necessary;
  • Maintains inventory record, service contracts, and licensing information for hardware and software;
  • Keeps abreast of the field of microcomputer system products and evaluations products for possible use with the agency;
Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of data processing principles and practices, especially as they apply to the field of microcomputers; good knowledge of the field of microcomputer networking; ability to keep abreast of the field of microcomputers and LAN systems, and to make qualitative evaluations of new products; ability to train others in the use of microcomputer system hardware and software; ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with user departments and staff; ability to communicate, both orally and in writing; initiative; tact; patience; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

In addition to the above minimum qualifications, the Library District seeks an individual with the following attributes:
  • A desire for civic engagement with the local community and interests and a passion to fulfill the Library District's mission and vision;
  • Leadership and a willingness to actively participate in the Library District's management team;
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in computer applications necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.

The Library District (www.poklib.org) is an independent special library district serving the residents and businesses of the City and Town of Poughkeepsie with a chartered population of 76,000 and an annual budget of $11.6 million.
Compensation:
This is a Civil Service appointment represented by CSEA. Annual minimum salary is established through collective bargaining, which is currently $62,916. 35-hour work week. Standard leave package applies.
