We are seeking a skilled Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist (CDIS) to join our client's team on a remote basis. The ideal candidate will have a solid clinical/medical background, including a minimum of 5 years of experience in clinical documentation improvement (CDI), with some or all of that experience within an Academic Medical Center (AMC). In this role, you will support the accurate and complete documentation of patient care, ensuring compliance with coding regulations and improving clinical documentation processes. You will also use EPIC and 3M 360 Encompass (CAC) software in your daily workflow.
Job Responsibilities:
Review and assess medical records for accuracy and completeness, ensuring proper documentation of diagnoses, procedures, and treatment plans. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure clinical documentation meets coding and compliance standards. Utilize EPIC and 3M 360 Encompass (CAC) to support clinical documentation improvement efforts and ensure coding accuracy. Educate and guide clinical staff on proper documentation practices and regulatory requirements. Analyze medical records to identify gaps in documentation and assist in improving clinical documentation for accurate coding. Stay current on coding regulations and compliance requirements, including updates to ICD-10, CPT, and other coding guidelines. Assist in the creation of documentation policies, guidelines, and workflows to optimize accuracy and compliance. Ensure clinical documentation aligns with hospital quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
RN from a U.S. accredited school. Minimum of 5 years of experience in Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), with some experience in an Academic Medical Center (AMC). Recent experience using EPIC and 3M 360 Encompass (CAC). Strong knowledge of medical coding (ICD-10, CPT) and regulatory compliance. Consistent job history in Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), including contractor experience. Solid clinical/medical foundation, with ICU or ED staff nursing experience being a plus. Recent hands-on experience with 3M CAC 360 and EPIC. Extensive knowledge of coding, regulatory compliance, and healthcare documentation standards. Strong technical and critical thinking abilities. Ability to articulate and discuss pathophysiology clearly and fluently with clinical and non-clinical staff. Recent (within the last 12 months) or current experience in an Academic Medical Center (AMC) environment is strongly preferred. Ability to discuss and explain medical and diagnostic topics to a variety of stakeholders. Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex medical concepts to both clinical and non-clinical staff.
