The City of Perry Police Department is a full-service Police Department in Taylor County Florida, that serves approximately 7000 residents within a geographic area of approximately 10 square miles. The City of Perry has a concentration of single-family homes, with a light industrial base and a central business district. The department consists of twenty-three sworn officers, divided into a 16-person Uniform Patrol Division, a 4-person Criminal Investigations Division, and a 3-person Administrative Section. The department is also assisted by two civilian administrative assistants. How you will make an impact: The incumbent of this position acts as Law Enforcement Officer for the City of Perry Police Department and is responsible for the pursuit, apprehension, and arrest of law violators or suspected law violators. Identifies and investigates all suspicious incidents or reported crimes to include processing crime scenes, collecting and preserving evidence for court, filing criminal charges, general traffic enforcement and responding to calls for service. Conduct routine citywide patrols to deter criminal activity and identify any hazardous conditions that may be detected. Review all paperwork for accuracy and completeness prior to the end of the assigned tour of duty. Operates computer and two-way communication equipment. Perform special tactical assignments, crowd control and testifies in judicial proceedings. Performs other related duties as assigned.Qualifications:
Florida Statute 943 requires that any person employed in this class must: 1. Be at least 19 years of age. 2. Be a citizen of the United States, notwithstanding any laws of the State to the contrary. 3. Be a high school graduate or its equivalent as the term may be determined by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission of the Department of Law Enforcement. 4. Not have been convicted of any felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement, nor have received a dishonorable or undesirable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person who, after July 1, 1981, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement shall not be eligible for employment or appointment as an officer, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication. 5. Have his or her processed fingerprints on file with the employing agency 6. Have passed a physical examination by a licensed physician, based on specifications established by the Commission. 7. Have a good moral character as determined by a background investigation under procedures established by the Commission. 8. Possess a current certificate of compliance for basic employment certification issued by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. Those applicants without a current CJSTC certification are encouraged to apply and may be eligible to receive paid academy training upon the execution of a three-year employment contract with the City of Perry Police Department. This paid training is granted at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police. 9. Valid drivers license and good driving history. 10. Prior law enforcement is preferred but not required. 11. Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces 12. No marijuana use within the last two years. No other illegal drug use within the last three years. 13. Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation including polygraph, medical, drug screen and psychological examinations.Hiring Salary Range Hiring Salary:
Full time position, $54,267.20 while on probation and $55,598.40 after probation annually. Educational incentives are paid as detailed by FSS with additional incentive paid by the City of Perry. AA / AS Degree is an additional $910.00 annually. A Bachelors degree is an additional $1300.00 annually. Officers sponsored and employed for their academy training will be paid $40,000 annually until the completion of the academy and successful completion of the State of Florida certification examination.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
