Job Summary:
Performs initial work-up and specialized examinations of the eye as directed by ophthalmologist. Assists ophthalmologist with clinical examination and surgical procedures as directed.
Essential Responsibilities:
Interviews each patient to obtain information about symptoms and documents information provided by patient in medical record. Follows established protocol to determine the appropriate tests to perform based on patients description of symptoms and personal inspection of eye. Uses specialized equipment to test patients vision and condition. Provides test results to provider and brings attention to abnormal conditions. Assists the general and specialty ophthalmologist in the clinical examination of the eye and in surgical procedures as directed. Applies eye dressings and protective shields as directed. Documents examination results and treatments in patient file. Cleans and maintains specialized equipment and work areas. Attends patients requiring emergency care and alerts ophthalmologist to their condition. Performs other related duties as requested. Must be able to adjust schedule based on urgent needsMust be able to travel to all Ophthalmology clinics within NOVA based on business needs
Basic Qualifications:
Experience Minimum two (2) years of experience working in an Ophthalmology practice as an Ophthalmic Assistant required. Education High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required. Formal course in ophthalmology or military training. License, Certification, Registration Ophthalmic Assistant Certificate from The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personel in Opthomology Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:
Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software required. Successfully demonstrated proficiency on initial skills assessment during the interview process required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to perform IV Fluoroscein Angiography preferred. Formal shadowing program or actual experience in a program for IV insertion for non-nurses preferred. Must be able to pass a practical evaluation to show evidence of skills and retina experience preferred

Pay Range:
