An employee in this class performs complex and varied clerical, account keeping, public contact and administrative work, which requires the exercise of considerable independence in judgment. Employee works on projects covering a wide variety of subjects which require independence of action in preparing correspondence and reports, giving information, and performing other public contact work. The employee receives general supervision from a top administrator, who makes only occasional review of work and makes general assignments in terms of desired results. Work is evaluated through observation of results and in the course of conferences. Duties and Responsibilities (Any one position may not include all the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks, which may be found in positions of this class.) Prepares, inputs, reconciles, and posts financial data relating to the sales tax reporting and licensing process. Opens and closes taxpayer accounts; ensures data integrity of taxpayer accounts. Processes assessments; collects delinquent sales tax using a variety of collection procedures including phone and written correspondence. Interacts with a variety of departments and agencies both internally and externally; responds to a high volume of inquiries from taxpayer phone calls, mail and walk-in visits regarding tax issues and business licensees. Handles routine adjustment transactions pertaining to tax, licensing, and collections; composes and types routine correspondence; maintains files; archives documents and data; and Performs additional duties as required. Education and Experience Graduation from a standard high school or equivalent; college-level courses in accounting or related field preferred. Two years of experience in professional accounting work preferred. Experience with SUTS and GovOs preferred. Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities; Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, business English, spelling and business math. Knowledge of the operations, functions, and scope of authority of City departments and offices as related to the handling and disposition of complaints, requests for information and delegated administrative details. Skill in the use of office equipment including a word processor and/or computer. Ability to make decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to work independently with a minimum amount of supervision. Ability to maintain complex records and compile and prepare reports from various sources. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public and other City employees. Supplemental Information Selected candidate will be required to pass a background and drug screen. This is a non-exempt position (eligible for over-time compensation). DESCRIPTION & BENEFITS
Regular Full-Time Employee works in a position that is classified as 40 hours per week. Eligible for full benefit package including medical, dental, life and LTD insurance; pension and general leave and optional benefits. Regular Part-Time 30+ Employee works in a position that is classified as 30+ hours per week. City pays contribution toward employee only medical and dental insurance. Employee can pay the difference to cover spouse and/or children. Life & LTD insurance coverage is provided. Employee participates in the City's pension plan and the City contributes to the plan. Employee accrues general leave on a pro-rated basis and optional benefits. Regular Part-Time 20+ Employee works in a position that is classified as 20+ hours per week but less than 30 hours. City pays contribution toward employee only medical insurance. Employee accrues general leave on a pro-rated basis and the City pays 3.75% toward deferred compensation and optional benefits. Regular Part-Time (less than 20 hours/wk) Employee works is a position that is classified as less than 20 hours per week. Employee accrues general leave on a pro-rated basis and the City pays 3.75% toward deferred compensation. Part-Time (No Benefits) Employee works in a position that is classified as a "no benefit" position (i.e., Fitness Instructor, Scorekeeper, Substitute Lifeguard). Employee is not eligible for benefits and pays 7.5% toward deferred compensation. Seasonal/Temporary Employee works in a position that is classified as a short-term position, is not eligible for benefits and pays 7.5% toward deferred compensation.
