Job Description
These duties include:
performing phlebotomy on research volunteers with neurological diseases and healthy controls; meticulous handling and processing of human blood and body fluid specimens; precise documentation of all procedures; reception desk duties; helping research staff schedule research visits; stocking unit supplies; following NCRU, university, and state policies for infection control and safety; maintaining a safe environment for participants who are cognitively impaired and/or have physical disabilities; other administrative and research duties as needed. This position requires excellent communication and judgment in order to provide research participants with an outstanding research experience. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $36.90 - $36.90 (Hourly Rate). To learn more about the benefits of working at UCSF, including total compensation, please visit: https://ucnet.universityofcalifornia.edu/compensation-and-benefits/index.html Department Description Neurosciences Clinical Research Unit The Neurosciences Clinical Research Unit (NCRU) at Mission Bay is a multi-disciplinary outpatient clinical research unit that provides state of the art research space along with nursing, phlebotomy, and imaging services to support observational and investigational research studies through the Department of Neurology. Required Qualifications HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities At least 2 years phlebotomy experience At least 2 year experience working with patient with neurodegenerative disease (such as dementia, MS, movement disorders) Knowledgeable in phlebotomy issues, such as tubes required for blood draw of clinical laboratory tests, universal precautions Ability to interact in a professional, courteous manner with participants with physical disabilities, behavioral issues, and cognitive disorders Ability to follow detailed physician research orders and NCRU policies Excellent verbal and written communications, organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills required to work effectively in a diverse team Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment and to re-prioritize responsibilities as needed Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with research participants, co-workers, & clinicians Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Windows Preferred Qualifications Medical Assisting/phlebotomy background Bachelor's Degree Demonstrated proficiency with medical terminology, administering ECG Experience in neurology, geriatric populations, a healthcare setting, and/or clinical research License/Certification Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification California Phlebotomy License (CPT-1) About UCSF The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is a leading university dedicated to promoting health worldwide through advanced biomedical research, graduate-level education in the life sciences and health professions, and excellence in patient care.
