Equipment Operator 1 1.7 1.7 out of 5 stars Margate, FL Department Parks & Recreation Location City of Margate; FL Position Type FT Employee Salary $45,778 to $64,228 Date 2024.10.01 Description General Statement of Job Under the general supervision of a department supervisor performs skilled maintenance and construction work through the operation of heavy equipment and machinery. Employee possesses journeyman knowledge of various public services construction repair and maintenance activities policies and procedures. Employee performs all work according to established safety standards codes and regulations applicable to the work. Employee works with independence and limited supervision and functions in a lead capacity in the absence of a supervisor. Essential Functions The following duties and functions; as outlined herein; are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this position. Operates complex and heavy mechanical equipment; including but not limited to bobcat; backhoe; loader; bucket truck; tractor (including operation of all associated attachments); Toro Spray Master; box blade; and aerator. Performs routine safety inspections of operating equipment and mechanical systems; performs maintenance; makes moderately complex repairs; and assists in complex repairs of equipment and vehicles. Operates a wide variety of construction equipment and tools; operates various standard hand-held manual; electrical; and gas powered tools and equipment; operates a variety of specialized specific tools and equipment. Performs minor maintenance and repair on City property as directed. Cleans debris and refuse from City property regularly; and in response to emergency cleanup orders. Assists other skilled personnel in construction projects and cleanup as directed. Performs Emergency Response duties as assigned. Performs related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience High school diploma or GED supplemented with a minimum of five (5) years of responsible work experience in a Public Works/Parks/Utilities or construction-related position; including five (5) years of experience in the operation of heavy equipment. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class "B" CDL driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

Tasks involve walking; standing; bending; stooping; some lifting and carrying objects of moderate to heavy weight (20-50 pounds); and occasionally very heavy (100+ pounds) items.

Skilled in the utilization of hand and power tools. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors; fellow employees; and vendors. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare reports and maintain records as required by supervisor or oversight entity.
