Job Description

Santa Clara City is now accepting applications for a Power Journey Lineman. The starting salary range is between $48.00 to $51.00 or $99,840 to $106,080 annually, depending on experience. 
  • Position Summary:
  • Under direction of the Power Superintendent, performs a variety of journey level technical duties related to power system installation, distribution, transmission, and maintenance.
  • Education/Experience:
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. Successful completion of four (4) year lineman apprenticeship. 
  • Licenses/Certifications:
  • Must have a U.S. Department of Labor Certification or its equivalent at the journey line worker level. Must have a valid Utah Commercial Driver's License. Shall be pole climbing certified, bucket truck rescue certified, pole top rescue certified, CPR Certified and AED Certified. 
  • Special Requirements:
  • Must be generally available and respond to emergency "call-outs" at any time of day, year-round, regardless of weather conditions. Must take troubleshooters responsibility as determined by and assignment scheduled adopted by the Power Department. Must be able to respond to emergency call-outs within 1 hour.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Procedures for installation of high voltage power lines and equipment; hazards and safety precautions associated with high voltage; equipment and tools required to effectively perform duties; terminology and nomenclature of the electrical field, operation of heavy duty power equipment; construction and maintenance; modern methods, principles and practices of power transmission and distribution; current codes, standards, safety practices and principals involved in power utility operations; general electrical engineering principles and practices; legal environment associated with power utility projects; principles of supervision; proper tree trimming around power lines; and basic knowledge of Microsoft operating programs.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Physical Demands
  • -Able to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms overhead, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear; required to climb poles and stand in a hydraulic bucket to work at heights up to 100' while performing line work, often working in awkward positions; must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
 
  • Working Conditions:
  • The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts in high, precarious places and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, ambient air, temperature extremes, fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually high. The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions.
  • Communication Skills:
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Tool, Machine, Equipment Operation:
Motorized vehicles and equipment including pickup, dump truck, manlift, digger derrick, backhoe, pole climbing equipment, wire cutters, heat sensors, electrical testing equipment, hot sticks, clamp sticks, generator, line tracer, and various hand tools, and other equipment pertaining to this position.
  • Working Schedule:
  • 4 ten-hour days, Monday
  • Thursday 7:00
  • 5:30 (winter), 6:00
  • 4:30 (summer)
  • On-call according to schedule
