We build, design, and repair fiber optic networks for all types of customers such as local businesses and municipalities, universities, and large internet service providers. Job Description The equipment operator is the most knowledgeable and responsible of all crew members on the jobsite. All working components that contribute to a successful workday rely on this person. The other crew members look to the crew lead for guidance and answers over the course of the job. This person sets the tone for safety, production, functionality, and efficiency of the job. Our customers have exacting standards with the expectation of quality production over a specific timeline. The equipment operator works to ensure the customers' expectations are met in a safe and timely manner with a high degree of quality work, and has the support of their manager, the project manager, and our safety and fleet department.Key Responsibilities:
Lead a team of 3 or 4. Operate mini excavators, road saws, jackhammers, trenchers, and other hand and power tools to dig trenches and expose existing utilities. Excavate safely around underground utility lines using hand digging and other digging techniques as needed. Install and repair underground conduit systems for fiber optic cable. Follow engineered drawings and locate markings to ensure accurate and damage-free excavation. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work sites, including proper signage and traffic control when necessary. Assist with backfilling, compaction, and restoration of disturbed areas (asphalt, concrete, grass, etc.). Perform daily inspections and document necessary maintenance of vehicles and heavy equipment. Adhere to company and OSHA safety standards and procedures at all times.Qualifications:
Prior experience in utility excavation or similar construction work required. Proficient in operating mini excavators and other trenching tools. Familiarity with underground utility locating and safe digging practices (Dig Safe knowledge a plus). Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks. Valid driver's license (CDL a plus). OSHA 10 or 30 certification preferred.
