Role:
The Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting both the dentist and dental hygienists and ensuring a smooth workflow within the dental practice. This position involves assisting with patient care, maintaining a sterile environment, and managing dental instruments and equipment. The primary goal is to enhance patient comfort and safety while promoting optimal oral health. The Dental Assistant will also be responsible for educating patients on proper dental hygiene practices and assisting in various dental procedures. Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to the overall patient experience and the efficiency of the dental team.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Certificate of completion of Dental Assisting program, school or equivalent dental assistant hands on training. Experience in dental assisting. Knowledge of dental terminology and procedures. Dental X-Ray certificate for the State of Virginia AHA CPR certified for health care providers Must be able to blind touch type with accuracy 30-45 wpm, computer literate, chart treatment and place notes in patients` records in a timely manner. Must be comfortable seeing and able to maintain a professional demeanor and attitude while working around blood and unpleasant smells. Must be able to work a 35-36 hour work week to include three evenings until 6:00pm.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with dental software Eaglesoft experience a plus. Additional training in infection control and sterilization techniques.
Responsibilities:
Assist Dental Hygienists during patient examinations and cleanings. Assist Dentist utilizing 4 handed assisting techniques. Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment according to infection control protocols. Take dental X-rays and photographs Educate patients on oral hygiene practices and post-treatment care. Maintain accurate patient records and assist with scheduling appointments. Ensure the dental office environment is clean, sterile, organized, and welcoming for patients. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Skills:
The required skills such as dental assisting and knowledge of dental terminology are essential for effectively communicating with both patients and the dental team. Proficiency in sterilization and infection control ensures a safe environment for patients, which is paramount in healthcare settings. Compassion and strong interpersonal skills are vital for building rapport with patients and providing them with comfort during their visits. Body motion skills are utilized in assisting hygienists during procedures, ensuring that instruments are handed over efficiently and safely. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Standing 80%. Sitting 20%. Moderate noise levels from dental and other lab equipment. Medical, office, and lab setting. Minimum moving requirements of 35 pounds in order to transfer equipment and pack and unpack supplies. Frequent bending, twisting, and position changes in order to examine and service patients. Exceptional hand eye coordination and control in order to use dental implements for exams, to provide dentist assistance, and mix and/or place materials on dental tools, products, and in mouths. Frequent client and interoffice personnel interaction as this position is chair-side to dentist and heavily dependent on excellent patient and parent interaction. Exceptional typing skills to work with standard Eaglesoft software program provided. Near Vision—the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as required for mixing and placing materials on tools and in mouths. Potential occupational exposure to trace amounts of nitrous oxide and/or x-rays.
