Summary:
A sponsored Police Recruit is a Grand Valley State Police Department employee who is sponsored to attend the Grand Valley State University Police Academy. The intended result is promotion to Police Officer upon successful completion of the police academy and licensing by MCOLES. Sponsored Police Recruits will enjoy full-time pay and benefits. The Grand Valley Police Department will cover all tuition and related costs while attending the police academy. Tuition-free academy Earn $25.72/hr while attending the academy After successful completion of the academy, become a GVSU Police Officer starting at $29.90/hr ($62,192 annual) 8% retirement contribution, plus a 2% match Medical, dental and vision benefits (and more!)Essential Functions of Police Officer:
This is a uniformed and armed police position charged with enforcing state/local laws and the rules of the university. Patrols the campus in a marked unit and responds to emergency calls for service. Arrest and issue citations as necessary. Respond to and investigate complaints as received or as the department requires. Testify at court and subsequent hearings. Serve subpoenas and warrants as requested. Responsible for the safety and protection of the campus community, its personnel and property. Act as a liaison between campus community and area law enforcement agencies. Attend and complete by demonstrating proficiency all required in-service training programs which include Medical First Responder training and certification. Performs other similar and related duties as directed by supervisor.Required Qualifications and Education:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must have a valid Michigan driver's license with satisfactory driving record. Must be a citizen of the United States at the time of testing. Must not have any felony convictions or certain misdemeanor convictions. Must possess good moral character as determined by a favorable comprehensive background investigation. Must have physical, mental and emotional ability to execute duties.
