Position Summary:
This position will perform accounting and clerical work within the Finance department. The Finance Technician is expected to become proficient in Accounts Receivable, and may assist in Accounts Payable or Payroll.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Processes accounts receivable. Maintains accurate records for the Colony's customer accounts; processes billing data, invoices/statements, adjustments. This includes returned checks and travel reconciliation for staff or community travel. May process accounts payable. Collects invoices/statements or other documents submitted for payment, reviews for accuracy and proper approval. Performs data-entry, processes checks, and prints reports. Maintains vendor documentation for all processed claims. May processes payroll. Collects timesheets, reviews for accuracy and proper approval. Performs data entry for payroll processing, including data entry of timesheets. Processes accurate pay checks. Reports and pays payroll taxes and related benefits. Maintains payroll files and documents. Processes computer generated receipts for customer payments. Reviews various transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of amounts, account codes, descriptions, and post such to appropriate ledgers. Prepares general ledger adjusting journal entries for immediate supervisor's review and approval. Reconciles outside data with the general ledger on a monthly and annual basis or as frequently as needed. Assist in maintaining check logs and cash balances. Provides staff support such as preparation of letters, memoranda, reports, tabulations, and other related items as assigned. Sorts, photocopy, and file correspondence, checks, vouchers, and other materials, numerically, alphabetically, or by other prescribed methods as directed. Assists with the annual audit by researching and providing documents for auditors. Assists the public by checking routine records and files for requested information. Performs other duties as required by designated supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess a high school diploma or GED, including successful completion of formal training in bookkeeping and accounting. Knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic. One-year experience in an accounting department or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the ability to work in the accounting department. Must possess a good knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of bookkeeping, office filing systems, and accounts maintenance including balancing and closing accounts. Requires ability to compile information, conduct analysis, prepare moderately complex financial records and work within specific time frames. Must be able to operate adding machines and computerized systems. This job requires a pre-qualification testing for data entry and bookkeeping.
