Hourly Tribal Driving Permit Required:
Yes The Heavy Equipment Operator performs skilled work in the operation of heavy-duty equipment effectively and safely; and is responsible for maintenance, repairs and adjustments to highly specialized costly equipment requiring constant attention to protect from damage.
  • Operate a variety of equipment, which may include backhoes, motor graders, dump trucks, tractor, water trucks, stripers, loaders, blades, scrapers, bulldozers, etc.
  • Operate a truck trailer with lowboy unit attached for transporting heavy equipment.
  • Perform minor maintenance and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Notify supervisory personnel for need of regular, preventative, or emergency maintenance of all heavy equipment.
  • Perform duties under varied field conditions.
  • May be required to work varied hours depending on work schedules, seasonal schedule, emergencies, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of the operation of hydraulically operated equipment.
  • Knowledge of hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions of heavy equipment operation.
  • Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and rules involved with equipment operation.
  • Skill in the operation of various types of heavy trucks and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to coordinate eye-hand-foot movements.
  • Ability to service, adjust and make minor repairs to heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the public.
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace. High School diploma or GED with a minimum of three (3) years' experience in the operation and general maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License.
  • Required to obtain a Tribal Operator's permit.
Valid state driver's license with a current proof of driving record for the past 39 months will be required to qualify for a tribal driving permit . Proof of driving record must be submitted with application and must not be more than 60 days old from the date of submission of the application. Non-Supervisory, Hourly Position Reports to Director or designee
