This position is part of the Northwest Region Public Health Division within the NMDOH. The position is located in Albuquerque at the Midtown Public Health Office. Why does the job exist? This Medical Assistant role is key to clinic flow at the Midtown Public Health Office (PHO) to ensure that clients who present for STD services are triaged appropriately. This position also provides MA support to the clerical, clinical and laboratory teams. How does it get done? 1. Utilize protocols and tools such as client checklists and data elements to assess and triage clients for STD services. 2. Ongoing collaboration with clinical team to determine appropriate levels of care. 3. Assist at the PHO clinic with other tasks as assigned including, but not limited to, supporting the clerical team, clinical team and laboratory team. 4. Perform functions within the electronic health record such as registration, scheduling appointments and documenting care. 5. Ensure that clinic is supplied with tools to serve the clients. Who are the customers? The customers are New Mexicans, with an emphasis on undeserved residents. Ideal Candidate The customers are New Mexicans, with an emphasis on undeserved residents. Minimum Qualification High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) months experience with a public assistance program, medical, healthcare, educational, and/or state facility working with policies and procedures, conducting analysis/research, and/or providing or requesting information from the general public. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience. Employment Requirements Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPPA) and successful completion of Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act (CLIA) are required within sixty (60) days of employment. Position will require Blood-borne pathogen training and successful completion of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course within thirty (30) days, as a condition of continued employment. Working Conditions Services are provided in communities, clinics, auxiliary site settings and in the homes of consumers to a diverse racial and ethnic population, many of whom do not speak English. Reaching and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds may be required. Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
