Established in 1969, Austin ENT Clinic is one of the leading Ear, Nose and Throat clinics in the nation. Our physicians specialize in otolaryngologic care for pediatric and adult patients at locations across the greater Austin area. Our practice features state-of-the-art care for ear, nose, and throat problems, hearing loss, environmental allergies, sinus, and head and neck surgery. We offer a variety of highly specialized procedures that utilize the latest medical technology.What you will be doing:
You will be responsible for reviewing medical records and accurately assigning ICD-10, CPT4, and HCPCS codes, for office visits, in-office procedures, facility/hospital consults, and surgeries. You will also be using your expert knowledge and experience to assist our CBO AR team to identify the cause of claim denials and draft appeals letters. Your expertise may also be utilized to provide guidance and training to the CBO team, providers, clinic staff, and leadership, as needed. Hours are generallyM-F 8A-5P
with some flexibility.What you will need:
Experience:
At least 2 years of recent, full-time experience as a Coder of professional services claims for physicians of a surgical specialty; 5+ years preferred At least 2 years of recent, full-time experience coding office visits (E&M), office procedures, hospital consults, and surgical procedures. 2 years of recent ENT, general surgery, and neurosurgery preferred At least 1 year of experience using an EMR requiredNOTE:
experience must be as a Coder, where the vast majority of your day (70%+) was spent coding. Experience such as internships, apprenticeships, and AR Reps that incidentally coded will not be consideredNOTE:
dental, vision, chiropractic, and mental health-related experience will not be consideredSkills:
Ability to review clinical documentation and accurately assign CPT4, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes, from scratch Knowledge of official coding conventions and rules for assignment of CPT4, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS codes Knowledge of and ability to apply National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI), Medically Unlikely Edits), Local & National Coverage Determinations (LCD/NCD), applicable regulatory requirements, and applicable payer guidelines Ability to compliantly apply your knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies to complex situations relating to medical necessity, claims denials, bundling, and charge capture. Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations, anatomy and physiology, techniques, and surgical procedures, medical records, and the medical coding process Self-Starter with a positive attitude Detail oriented Ability to work as part of a team Ability to work with limited supervision Excellent critical thinking, investigational, and problem-solving skills Strong time management, multi-tasking, prioritization, and organizational skills Strong oral and written communication skills Proficient in general computer (PC) and website useEducation:
High School Diploma or Equivalency required Active CPC, COC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, or CMC medical coding certification requiredEnvironment:
