The class is responsible for locating utilities, marking and mapping, coordinating with service agencies and customers, generating technical documentation, and reports. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Requires a high school diploma or GED. Preferred, six months experience in locating underground utilities through the use of various line locators, maps, probe rod, shovel, calculator, computer and other work aids common to the job. Familiarity with WORD, EXCEL, ACCESS, and PowerPoint are preferred. Must be available to call to duty at any time for system emergencies excepting authorized sick leave. General knowledge of gas, electric, water, wastewater and fiber laws and Safety Codes; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Must be available for call back in emergencies. Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and a satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment. Must be able to pass required OQ (Operator Qualification) test modules during probationary period (training provided by City). Special skills or equipment certification may be required. This position requires participation in Gas Department random drug testing program . In addition, is subject to Federal Department of Transportation drug and alcohol testing regulations.
