Depending on the assignment, work may include sampling, inspections, customer education, responding to customer concerns, and laboratory work using specialized equipment. The ideal candidate will have three years of experience in customer service, along with two years of experience in water and/or wastewater industry. Attention to detail is essential, as the candidate must be able to understand and effectively communicate complex documents to various customers. Experience with HachWIMS or SAMS software is highly desired. Additionally, experience in inspecting backflow devices is preferred. Essential Functions This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following functions do not identify all duties performed by the incumbent. Other duties and responsibilities will be performed as assigned. Collects, documents and manages water quality data to support Operations in complying with federal and state regulations applicable to waste and wastewater systems. Uses proper techniques to ensure that all samples collected are properly preserved and identified for submittal to the laboratory for analysis. Performs all compliance sampling for water and wastewater. Ensures sampling is completed per permit and sent to the lab following the appropriate lab protocol. Responds to customer concerns regarding water quality or related issues using tact, diplomacy, and respect for the customer's needs and concerns. Completes file documentation by filing chain of custody, data entry, updating spreadsheets, and maintaining sample log books. Performs all field testing for County stipulations, process control, to ensure compliance, and internal and external requests. Maintains system compliance using specialized equipment. Coordinates and provides access to well sites for outside agencies for federal, state, county, and local compliance testing. Assist with the Cross Connection Program by conducting field inspections and data entry when needed. Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements Formal Education/Knowledge:
Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Community college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Experience:
Minimum one year experience in a related field.
Certifications and Other Requirements:
Valid Driver's License, ADEQ Grade II Operator License in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, or Wastewater Treatment.
Reading:
Work requires the ability to read and interpret plans, blueprints, or diagrams; and evaluate small industrial user's compliance reports for determining violations with environmental regulations.
Math:
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and formulas.
Writing:
Work requires the ability to write memos, letters, and reports at a college level; and prepare clear, concise, and accurate oral and written reports.

Become familiar with the use of the SAMS Water and Wastewater computerized water management system. Attend an ADEQ-provided water/wastewater sampling technique workshop. If a workshop is not available in the first 3 months, take first available. Become familiar with your team members and daily operations of the division. Work with the team to identify and prioritize areas to meet current workload demand, and also to improve and address training needs. Participate in Core Values and leadership development as appropriate to your position. Become familiar with the location of all monthly bacteriological sample sites. Correctly sample a Wastewater Quarterly sample event and fill out the chain of custody documentation. Become proficient and knowledgeable in City and Department policies, guidelines, programs, administrative and computer programs and systems utilized by the City, your position and workgroup. Review all SOPs annually and modify them as needed to meet current requirements and improve efficiency. Become familiar with all water/wastewater permits, including sampling requirements, reporting due dates, and frequencies.
