Job Description

Industrial Pipefitter Brown & Root 1001 Bedford Rd, North Kansas City, MO 64116 The Pipefitter is responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining piping systems, fittings, and fixtures for heating, cooling, water, and other systems in industrial, commercial, and residential settings. This role involves interpreting blueprints and specifications to determine the layout of piping systems, ensuring all installations meet safety standards and regulatory requirements. The Pipefitter plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of piping systems within various construction and maintenance projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine the layout of piping systems.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe using hand and power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines, and pipe-bending machines.
  • Assemble and install a variety of metal and nonmetal pipes, tubes, and fittings, including iron, steel, copper, and plastic.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Repair and maintain piping systems by replacing defective pipe, fittings, fixtures, or system components.
  • Ensure all systems are properly supported and comply with relevant codes and standards.
  • Perform welding and soldering of pipes and fittings as required.
  • Fabricate piping assemblies using various welding and cutting techniques.
  • Ensure welds are clean, secure, and meet industry standards and specifications.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safety procedures to protect against workplace hazards.
  • Stay informed about and comply with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations related to piping systems.
  • Collaborate with other tradespeople, contractors, and construction teams to ensure seamless integration of piping systems with other building systems.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, project managers, and team members regarding project progress and any issues encountered.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and project status.
  • Maintain and manage tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Keep an inventory of tools, materials, and supplies, and report any shortages or issues to supervisors.
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment are used safely and properly.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a pipefitting apprenticeship program is highly desirable. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pipefitting or a related trade. Proficiency in using pipefitting tools and equipment, including pipe cutters, threading machines, and welding equipment. Strong understanding of blueprints, schematics, and piping system layouts. Relevant certifications, such as ASME Pipefitter Certification, Journeyman Pipefitter, or other trade certifications, are highly desirable.
  • Physical Requirements:
    Ability to work in various environments, including confined spaces, heights, and adverse weather conditions. Physical strength and stamina to perform tasks that involve lifting, standing, and manual dexterity.
  • The Pipefitter typically works in industrial, commercial, and residential construction environments.
  • The role may involve exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and varying temperatures.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required to ensure safety during pipefitting activities.
  • Standard business hours apply, but additional hours may be required to meet project deadlines or address urgent maintenance needs.
